A New Time for Choosing

Burn it down, ‘til it’s ashes and smoke.
Burn it down, to the smoldering coals.
Burn it down, ‘til I don’t want you no more.
Baby, burn it down

Burn it Down – Parker McCollum  (2023)

…..

We, on the right, are all about winning elections and policy disputes. Meanwhile, the left has spent decades changing the culture of America. It is universally understood that culture is upstream from politics. Win the culture, and you will eventually win the elections. We have been losing the culture and are in danger of having lost it. This missive is longer than usual, but I hope you will stick with it. This is important stuff that is not discussed enough.

It is time to fight back.

When you step back and take a look at the policy positions of the left, they seem to make no sense. They are contradictory. The always talk about “saving our democracy,” but in every state where there is a Democrat governor and/or secretary of state, they are trying to remove Trump, RFK, Jr., No Labels, and the Green Party from the ballot so that Biden is the only choice. Oregon just ruled that all the Republicans in their State Senate are banned from running for reelection. That is Soviet style democracy. If you are under 18 in California, you cannot go to a tanning salon even with your parent’s permission because tanning salons are dangerous. But, you can have your genitals permanently altered without your parents knowledge because, of course, there are no risks in that. Inhaling smoke from cigarettes is bad for you but inhaling smoke from pot is good for you. Make sure people know that tobacco causes cancer but hide that pot causes serious mental deficiencies. Climate Change is the greatest threat to life on earth, but we cannot use nuclear power, carbon capture or hydroelectric, all of which have no or negative carbon emissions, to solve the problem. The road to a “color-blind” society is to discriminate and make everything decided based on race. Blacks need protection because they are a minority, but the smaller minorities of Asians and Jews must be discriminated against. The FBI infiltrates Catholic Churches because they may have pro-life activities but there is no reason to investigate any Mosques. Eight million people can enter the U.S. illegally with ease but a citizen has to wait in line for hours when flying back from overseas to have all their “papers” verified. Native Americans were here first so they should get their land back but Jews who have been in Judea for thousands of years earlier than that should be expelled. I could go on and on with examples.

It makes no sense. Unless you step back and understand the one unifying goal here. The objective is to destroy the American way of life, culture, society, constitution, and Judeo-Christian values and replace all of that with a neo-Marxist, atheist, authoritarian culture. That is the unmistakable goal of the left and the left runs the Democratic party today. Many of them are quite clear about it in their writings and in conversations. They don’t really care about this policy or that policy or even winning elections right now. If they capture the culture, all that will come to them in time.

As I said, the left has been working on this for decades while most of us (me included, unfortunately) were busy with our jobs, lives, and family living out the very American Dream the left set out to destroy. Let me give you a few quotes from a manifesto called “Prairie Fire” written by Bernardine Dohrn, Bill Ayers and Jeff Jones. They want “radical teachers” to create an “anti-racist white movement.” Amongst the things they said perpetuated “white supremacy” and needed to be infiltrated and changed were “schools, the unemployment cycle, the drug trade, immigration laws, birth control, the army and prisons.”

Prairie Fire was written in 1974. They distributed 40,000 copies of it.

The point is that the phrases and concepts that have come to fore just in the last few years are not new. They were concocted 50+ years ago by neo-Marxists. What we see now is that they are winning. What was fringe crazy talk in the 1970s is now mainstream thought in the Democratic party and major institutions. These 1970s radicals said they thought it might take 100 years to achieve their goals to take down capitalism, democracy and culture in the United States and replace it with their new version of Karl Marx’s manifesto. They are 50 years in right now and, I would argue, they are ahead of schedule.

Let’s take a very brief look at the institutions they have already transformed:

Education: From Harvard promoting killing all the Jews to your Kindergarten kid being shown gay porn and being told it’s preferable to be gay or trans, the leftists now dominate education in the United States at all levels.

Media: Do I really need to say anything here? Like university professors, some 90% of “broad reach” journalists identify as Democrats, Progressives or Marxists. They took this over long ago.

Big Tech: What have seen from Twitter (before Musk bought it), Facebook, Google and the like is also not at all hidden.

Corporate America: I wish that the woke culture was confined to technology companies, but it is not. From United Airlines to Coca-Cola to Nike, big corporate America is all in on the woke agenda and, if this continues, they will be like Red Chinese companies which are just arms of the state.

History: By tearing down the history of this country and society, you pave the way to remake both.

Even the Military: Note that the army was a part of the plan in Prairie Fire. This is the most recent area where the left has infiltrated.

Deep State: I know from personal experience that the deep state is real. Overwhelmingly, leftist, located inside the beltway, and unable to be fired because of civil service protections, they are their own force independent of the people elected to oversee them.

The Initiatives: Diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), Critical Race Theory (CRT), Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG), Modern Monetary Theory (MMT), and Migrant Workers – These are the mechanisms through which Neo-Marxism works its way into otherwise capitalist and democratic institutions. Whenever any organization embraces any of these concepts, it has gone to the dark side.

Fifty years is a long time. The leftists have accomplished a lot while we have been focused on other things. They will not stop. Sensible people who believe in God, the constitution and the founding principles of this country have to stop them.

By comparison, Barry Goldwater wrote “The Conscience of a Conservative” in 1960. I have that book here on my bookshelf. There are 10 chapters. The only one where conservatives have prevailed is “the Soviet Menace”. But in the other 9 of his measurements, all of which are still relevant, what he espoused has either seen no progress or, in most cases, gone backwards.

We have been losing. But all is not lost.

The recent experiences with Bud Light, Harvard College, and Disney have shown that when patriots fight back, they can win. But we have to fight back. In the words of Christopher Rufo, whose book “America’s Cultural Revolution, how the radical left conquered everything” is the source of some of the above information, we need a counter-revolution.

I hear people say all the time that this is the most important election of their lifetime. I have heard them say that every election since 2000, at least. Elections are important, no doubt. But the culture is more important. There is no compromise here. Defeating the neo-Marxists and reversing their takeover of “everything” is the seminal issue for all of us going forward, in my view.

You will hear a lot more on this from me in the coming months and years. There is so much each of us can do in our daily lives to fight against all of the wokeness in some or all of the bolded institutions I have outlined above. We don’t have to write a check. We don’t have to wait for a date in November on a calendar. We can turn off the leftist media, express our displeasure to corporations seeking our business, not fund or send our kids to woke schools and support the maintenance of real history. And that is just a start.

The song at the top of this blog is a country song. The only music I listen to that was written this century is country music. The themes are about real life and patriotism and family and the value of hard work. Unlike the rap songs that apparently inspired some black criminals to kill Asians in Las Vegas a few weeks back.

Yes, many country songs are still about heartbreak, as this song is. After his girl leaves him, he wants to burn down the house and all of the memories of her with it. I thought it was apropos for this missive because the left has been working to “burn down” or take over all of the institutions of America and western culture for decades.

It is time for us to instead “burn down” their institutions.

“You and I have a rendezvous with destiny. We’ll preserve for our children this the last, best hope for man on earth, or we will sentence them to take the last step into a thousand years of darkness.” Ronald Reagan said that as part of his famous “A Time for Choosing” speech in 1964, two years before he was elected governor of California. He was talking about the external threat from the Soviet Union. But earlier in that speech he warns that a time could come if the left has their way when “our surrender will be voluntary because by that time, we will have been weakened from within spiritually, morally and economically.”

That is our greatest threat now, that we weaken from within. Great empires have always rotted from within before they are conquered from without.

Reagan won the fight of his time. It is time for us to win the fight of ours.

I remain respectfully,
Congressman John Campbell
