I LOVE Trump 2.0, But There Are Risks
“Nobody does it better.
Makes me feel sad for the rest.
Nobody does it half as good as you.
Baby you’re the best.
There’s some kind of magic inside you,
That keeps me from running.
But just keep it coming.
How’d you learn to do the things you do?
And nobody does it better.
Though sometimes I wish someone could
Nobody does it, quite the way you do.
Why’d you have to be so good?”
If you have read my missives over the last few years, you know that I have had my issues with Donald Trump. I did not vote for him in the primary in 2024. I actually voted for Ron DeSantis, even though he had already withdrawn from the race. I thought he would make the best president. I am not a Never Trumper. Nor am I an Always Trumper. I am maybe best described as a Trump skeptic.
But I am rapidly becoming a fan.
I don’t agree with all he is doing, of course. Hell, I didn’t agree with myself from time to time while in office. And I am not fond of the way he does some things. But on balance, Trump 2.0 is having a great start. I am watching his first address to a joint session of Congress as I write this. I found this speech inspiring!
First of all, the energy in this administration and the pace of change is astounding and unprecedented in my lifetime. Mr. Trump is not young. But his Vice President and many of his cabinet appointees are. This is a youthful, optimistic and energetic group.
I love the way he is boldly going directly after the Neo-Marxism in media, the bureaucracy, Corporate America and Universities. Corporations are quickly backing down. Propaganda media are becoming increasingly irrelevant. But the NGOs, universities and much of the bureaucracy will lose the sources of their revenue. So, they will fight hard. The Democratic Party is basically a money laundering machine today. They take government money, give it to NGO’s and Universities who pay huge salaries to people who then donate a bunch of that money back to the Democrats who funded them.
It is amusing to watch all the comments about how Elon Musk was not elected. But it was well telegraphed before the election that he would be in the White House and head up DOGE. George Soros was not elected either. But he operates under a cloak of secrecy directing Democrats like puppets all over the country with his billions of dollars. But apparently, that is fine.
I have long said that foreign policy is the least black and white issue in politics. There is diplomacy and the balancing of many interests. It is often hard to see where a particular policy is intended to lead or will lead. Such is the case now. But our foreign policy needed a reset. I cannot analyze what is going on in a single blog not to mention a single paragraph. Trump is using his personal strength, America’s military and economic power, and his substantial negotiating skills to reshape foreign policy to benefit the people of the United States. He has smart people in State and Defense now. I am optimistic. But this stuff is not easy.
I have been a budget and spending hawk for three decades. DOGE is spectacular. Enough said.
As I am watching this address to Congress, I have never seen a lack of decorum that the Democrats are expressing. You always stand for the first lady. She is not political. The Democrats did not. Dems didn’t stand for being against drug cartels or harder penalties for killing a cop or even capturing a terrorist who killed Americans. They didn’t even stand for ending child cancer! In the past, you always stood for those things even if you didn’t like the person talking about them. Not the new Democrats. They were yelling and screaming and disrupting and the sergeant of arms had to remove some. Our government has not been this divided in my lifetime. There’s an old saying in the U.S. Air Force. When the enemy flak gets really bad, you know you are over the target.
The economic challenges are immense. The government stimulus that was designed to get Kamala elected in 2024 is now unwinding. Trump is unpredictable. Markets don’t like uncertainty. House prices are unaffordable. Either they come down or people’s incomes need to rise to meet them. It is becoming more likely that we have an economic downturn in the next few months. But then, the recovery could be very strong. The deadwood is not just in the government. There’s plenty in the economy too. Clearing that out is painful but leads to future prosperity. Trump wants longer term rates to be lower, more growth, lower taxes, less inflation, lower government spending and a decreasing deficit. Hard to do because so much of our economic growth lately has been because of government spending and money printing.
Many oppose tariffs because of the history of tariffs in the 1920s and 1930s. That was 100 years ago. Things are different now. Will they be permanent or are they a means to and end? I’m not sure anyone knows. But we can’t be a country that only has software engineers. We have to make stuff, for national defense purposes as well as for social stability and to reduce income inequality. So the goal here is admirable and necessary.
Someone made a sports analogy about the flurry of new ideas and policies that come out of the Trump administration every few minutes. They are “flooding the zone” which in basketball parlance means they have so many people near the basket that it is hard to defend. The Democrats send out nonsensical talking points for their members to repeat that are the same ones they have used for 50 years against anyone who is cutting spending or putting violent criminals in jail.
Illegal alien crossings are down 97%. Joe Biden, and every propaganda media outlet, said legislation was necessary to do that. They lied.
It’s going to be one hell of a ride. There will be bumps. There will be failures. There will be changes in direction. There will be insults I wish he hadn’t hurled at someone. But damn, I’m feeling good. I think this just might work. Frankly it has to work. The Democratic Party has become truly authoritarian and Marxist. Today’s Democrats only care about transgenders, abortion doctors, criminals and illegal aliens. No one else matters. The rumors are that AOC will run for president in 2028 to fill the space vacated by the now too old Bernie Sanders. That bartender from Queens recently called Elon Musk “unintelligent.” The fact that she believes that about someone who is the greatest innovator and smartest person of our age and she is a serious contender for president, tells you all you need to know about the Democrats today.
Some of you reading this are Never Trumpers. Get over it. Your alternative is somebody like AOC or Gavin Newsom. As much as you dislike Trump, you can’t prefer that. I know you want another choice, but that ship has sailed. Today, if you are not rooting for Trump, you are rooting for Marxism. Like it or not, that’s just how it is.
Go Trump!
I remain respectfully,
Congressman John Campbell
