Money for Nothing - Dire Straits (1985)
…..
August is usually the doldrums of the news cycle. Congress is out of session and everyone else is on vacation for all of the month (if you are in Europe) or some of the month everywhere else. But not this year. There is a lot going on. I usually dedicate each of these missives to a single topic. Today, I will try to cover many things, each in three sentences or less. Here goes:
Flash Mob Robberies: There have been over 170 of these robberies in Southern California this year with 10s of millions of dollars having been stolen by dozens if not hundreds of criminals. These have been going on for months and finally about a dozen arrests were made in the last few days. All of those arrested were released the same day under LA County’s “no bail” policy. Is it any wonder why these crimes are not stopping?
China EVs: Room temperature IQ John Kerry and other climate worshipers often point to the large EV production numbers in China as an example of how much better they are at carbon reduction. The reason China is pushing so hard for EVs is that they have very little oil, but almost unlimited coal and they are wanting to be energy independent by powering cars with coal-produced electricity instead of oil. In that sense, they are doing something better than us, which is caring about energy independence.
Black States: On August 18th, 2023, the New York Times (mouthpiece of the far left) ran an editorial entitled “We need Black Majority States.” It called for blacks from the “northern cities” to move to “states like Mississippi and Georgia” in order to create black majority states, which also has the benefit for hypocritical white leftists of getting those blacks out of “their” northeastern cities. The Democratic party was the party of racism and segregation for more than 120 years and it has become that again.
Eugenics and Child Mutilation: One of America’s worst presidents was Woodrow Wilson who won two elections with less than 50% of the popular vote due to the siphoning of Republican votes to Teddy Roosevelt’s Bull Moose Party. He also ran for reelection under the banner “he kept us out of war” and then put us in World War I less than 90 days after being inaugurated for his second term, which term was mainly run by his wife as he had a stroke and could not govern. He supported the now disgraced “Eugenics” philosophy just as our current incapacitated and corrupt president supports the child mutilation surgeries as part of “gender reassignment” that is popular today but will, with time, be seen for what it is, which is an inhumane and reprehensible philosophy as was eugenics 100 years ago.
Money for Nothing: You may or may not support farm subsidies although every country on earth does them because if there’s one thing your country cannot be without, it is food. But in Joe Biden’s recent laws, there is money for “socially disadvantaged” farmers, which is code for black farmers to get money just for being black. The bills also have “at-risk loan assistance,” which means the government will pay your loan for you if you can’t pay it. But it will also pay your loan for you if you simply choose not to pay it, which many are doing to get free money.
Woke Military: Rush Limbaugh often used to say that the military exists to “kill people and break things.” That is crude but correct. The new “woke” military is promoting people on the basis of race, sexual preference and gender identity and designing weapons to run on electricity in order to “combat climate change,” which is apparently the real enemy. I hope our next battlefield has plenty of charging stations on it.
Climate in China: China’s president Xi Jinping this week reiterated his position that China will not follow the 2015 Paris Accords and will “set its own path” and “not be influenced by outside factors” on the climate issue. Translation: they will not be doing anything on carbon reduction. So, if China (and many other countries) aren’t doing anything, what sense does it make for us to increase our costs and reduce our growth and standard of living for no net change in the world?
Draw the Lines: Joe Biden’s family took millions of dollars from Burisma in Ukraine through shell companies and aliases in order to have the then Vice President get a prosecutor off the company’s back. Then, Vice President Biden withheld $1 Billion of U.S. money from Ukraine until they fired the prosecutor, which they did. There is much more out there about the Biden family than this, but on this alone, without any more evidence, it is clear that he committed corruption and probably treason.
Special Prosecutor: The Garland appointed special prosecutor in the Biden corruption and treason case is a sham. He will use the existence of the investigation to stonewall House Republicans from subpoenaing information and drag any “findings” out until after the 2024 election, after which the case will be dismissed.
Pray for Congressman Steve Scalise: I served with the now majority leader. He was shot by a leftist nutcase on a baseball field a few years back and now has blood cancer. He is a man of the utmost character, and we need more like him.
Trump Nomination: Regardless of the polls, my fear if Trump becomes the Republican nominee is that he will energize Democrats to turn out and vote against him while reducing Republican turnout since so many Republicans do not like him either. It is bad that he will lose, but even worse is that he will bring a Democratic House majority with him because of voting patterns. Elections these days are won more by who turns out rather than who wins the middle.
Universities in Decline: America’s Universities have been the pride of this nation since its founding and have led to advancements in science, mathematics, economics, medicine, and any number of disciplines. But, that system is now in rapid decline. Nothing in the economy has gone up more in cost in the last 50 years than tuition at universities. Yet, they keep lowering standards and dropping education in trades and other commercially usable skills in favor of woke indoctrination. The place where free speech most flourished is now where it is the most suppressed. Even college sports has become just another source of revenue to fund overpaid and underworked professors and build huge edifices to their enlightenment.
The song at the beginning of this missive should be Hunter Biden’s theme song – Money for nothing and your chicks for free.
Careful readers will notice that several of these “issues” had more than three sentences. I am a politician. It is important that I not fulfill all my promises….
I remain respectfully,
Congressman John Campbell
